Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. She traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters including and the Iran Contra controversy.
